Young Builder of the Year · 2023

Six years from first job to the state's Young Builder of the Year.

Kyle took Master Builders Tasmania's Young Builder of the Year in 2023, six years after founding Zanetto Builders and while still in his twenties. It is an award for the person rather than the building — judged on business management, leadership and contribution to the industry, not on a single house.

The path there was not a straight one. He worked in a supermarket from the age of fourteen, started a carpentry apprenticeship at sixteen, spent four years finishing the trade, then two more studying business before starting the company in 2017 at twenty-four.

What the judges were looking at was the way the business runs: open-book pricing with the margin published, a 48-hour feasibility so nobody commits to a build blind, and a 35-step process put on the website in full rather than summarised into six vague ones.

Since then: 29 state and national building awards, a team of 38 across three Tasmanian offices, and thirteenCertified Passive House Tradespersons — the largest certified team in the state. He still sketches his own concepts by hand, and still writes about what he is learning.

He also has a deep passion for design, having personally sketched and built two nationally recognized award-winning homes. To bring this vision to life Kyle has created a new term and business called DARKITECTURE, showcasing the construction of dark toned projects.

The philosophy is simple and public: build once, build properly, and show the client every number along the way — open-book, from the 48-hour feasibilityto handover.
